On Nov 10 in 2018, the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (Hannan) Aviation Industry Development Plan and Spatial Layout Study (2018-2025) was officially released in the WEDZ, in Wuhan city in China's Central Hubei province.

The plan, which was prepared by Beihang University and related departments, analyzes and plans in detail the international, domestic and Hubei aviation industry development environment, the development strategy, spatial layout and key businesses.

It is stated in the plan that in the future, the WEDZ should carry out aircraft assembly and manufacturing through mergers and acquisitions, cooperative production and bringing in technology -- and increase innovation and R & D, to make breakthroughs in key technologies.

Since 2017, WEDZ has been host venue for the World Fly-in Expo and RENO International Championship Air Races. It has successfully hosted three sessions of the international events.

The first World Fly-in Expo held in 2017 attracted 500,000 spectators.

Data shows that since the first World Fly-in Expo, the WEDZ has won 13 projects related to general aviation, with a cumulative contract value of 31.7 billion yuan ($5.25 billion).

According to WEDZ officials, the zone will move to focus on attracting investment from the general aviation industry chain and attract general aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles projects, key navigational components, general aviation operations and security and general satellite projects.

It will take the opportunity to move into low-altitude airspace endeavors, focusing on the development of the general aviation equipment industry and accelerate the development of major projects and infrastructure including general aviation airports.

It will develop airborne electronic equipment and related computer-aided design and application systems, GPS, new terminals, the integration and application products related to the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System -- as well as speeding up the development of satellite applications and service projects, including telematics.

By 2020, the zone is expected to have established an industrial ecosphere giving priority to small general aviation aircraft manufacturing, aircraft parts manufacturing, flight training, operations and maintenance, exhibitions and trade -- and be host to satellite equipment manufacturing and application enterprise headquarters, creating annual income of 20 billion yuan ($2.91 billion) in those main businesses.
