        Electronic appliances industry

        Updated: 2022-02-08

The Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) – located in Wuhan in China’s Central Hubei province – has made great strides in developing its electronic appliances industry, giving full play to the advantage of having leading companies in the sector located there, including Haier, Gree and the Midea Group.

WEDZ officials said the industry is based in the Gree Electric Appliances Industrial Park, the Midea Industrial Park and the Haier Industrial Park.

They said zone will expand the breadth and depth of its industrial development and accelerate the expansion of the electronic appliances industry there to emerging industries, as well as production of components and attracting support industries.

Currently, the zone is moving to attract new resident businesses involved in the innovation and integration of home appliances and enterprises involved in the 3C sector -- computers, communications and consumer electronics.

It is aiming to establish a research and development and production base for home appliances and their core components, as well as expand its presence in the smart home industry system based on smart home appliances -- and strive to become a smart home hub in China.

According to the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (Hannan) Strategic Emerging Industry Development Plan (2017-2021), the zone will focus on the development of smart home appliances terminals, smart home products and components and smart home networks.

It will boost its cooperation with universities and research institutions, see the establishment of related industries and local standards, as well as promote the establishment of national standards.

WEDZ officials said its Wuhan factory is the largest domestic production base for domestic air conditioners in the Midea Group. In recent years, the facility has invested heavily in intelligent transformation.

In 2016, the world's most intelligent air-conditioning external machine production line was put into operation at the plant.

The production line is 130 meters long and has 46 robots and 30 workers. The production line has an automation rate of about 60 percent -- and even the processes of packing box sealings and packing string binding are completed by robots.

Officials said there are about 70 processes involved, from chassis and shell assembly to final packaging.

So far, Midea's Wuhan plant has built the world's most intelligent production lines for air conditioner external units and the world's first automated production line for connecting pipes.
