The Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone has several leading biomedical industrial companies, including Wuhan Tongji Modern Pharmaceutical Technology Co, Wuhan Hiteck Biological Pharma Co and Ferguson (Wuhan) Biotechnology Co.
The WEDZ aims to cultivate, introduce and support resident biomedical enterprises.
Industries such as biological pharmaceuticals, modern Chinese medicine, chemical synthetic drugs and health services will be prioritized in the zone.
The development zone will accelerate product development and innovation, as well as build a biomedical industry research and development incubation center. By 2020, the output value of biomedicines is expected to reach 10 billion yuan ($1.41 billion).
The WEDZ has been making efforts in developing its big health industry, focusing on areas including biomedicines, medical equipment, people's livelihood security, elderly care services, cultural tourism towns, modern agriculture, food and beverages.
The zone plans to build a big health industrial park of about 10 square kilometers.
Also, in January, construction began on the Tongji Modern Pharmaceutical Ecological Industrial Park.
