The multifunctional separator pilot test and industrialization project of Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, capital of Central China's Hubei province, has settled in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WEDZ), local media reported.

The project will be conducted in the zone's Institute of Future Technology Innovation, where the production lines have been set up to help cross the "last-mile" obstacle before bringing the project from the lab to the market.

Zhu Wen, a professor of Huazhong University of Science and Technology and the project leader, said that the project has broad prospects for market application. The project is greatly significant as it not only addresses existing safety problems when working with lithium ion batteries, but also improves the electrochemical performance of the batteries.

The pilot test production line of this project is expected to be completed and put into operation in the first half of next year according to the current plan, said Yin Jiangfei, director of the project department of the Future Technology Innovation Research Institute. When the project is put into operation, it will be capable of producing 30 metric tons of cathode material and 15 tons of conductor separator annually.

The Institute of Future Technology Innovation in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone was established by the Wuhan Economic Development Zone. In turn, the zone entrusted Huazhong University of Science and Technology to be responsible for the institute's operation and management. It focuses on industries such as automobiles, new materials, new energy, and digital economy. Its other focus is to promote the deep synergy of innovation chains and industrial chains.
