Over the past few years, the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone has brought in a batch of 10-billion-yuan ($1.49 billion) projects invested in by CALB, Lotus and other industrial giants.

Over the same period, the zone's annual industrial power consumption has increased 60 percent and the urbanization rate has risen by 22 percentage points. The zone has also developed a way to integrate with Hannan district, which is currently administered by the zone.

The zone has seen 73 new Fortune 500 companies move in, as well as nine car manufacturers, including Dongfeng Honda, VOYAH and Lotus, and more than 500 auto component suppliers, making it one of the top car-making hubs in China.

A total of 127.4 billion yuan in investment in city construction projects has been fulfilled, with many major transportation projects, such as Shamao Avenue and Junsha Avenue, put into use.

In 2021, the zone recorded nearly 190 billion yuan in GDP, with its per capita GDP ranking first in Wuhan. Its total industrial output accounted for one fourth of the city's total, and about 45 percent of cars made in Hubei province were made in the zone.
