Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) signed several project agreements with Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) on May 18, focusing on the construction and operation of an international education and scientific innovation zone (Junshan branch), a future technology innovation research institute, and two high-end medical centers.
The cooperation between the two sides has been expanded to include international education, sci-tech achievement transfer, public health services, and talent training and exchange.
The signing ceremony was attended by You Zheng, president of HUST, Li Yuanyuan, Party secretary of HUST, Liu Ziqing, secretary of WEDZ's working committee, and Tang Chao, director of the zone's administrative committee.
The Junshan branch of the international education and scientific innovation zone is set to be established to the south of Junshan New City, with the first-phase of construction to occupy an area of 450,000 square meters and accommodate 10,000 students upon completion. The project is expected to be launched this year and finished in September 2024.
Interdisciplinary majors, such as advanced materials and intelligent manufacturing, IT and AI, clean energy and environmental protection, and life science and healthcare will be offered in the zone.
