The nine car manufacturing enterprises in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) are all able to produce new energy vehicles (NEVs). In the next two to three years, the zone's NEV production capacity is expected to surpass one million, which would make the zone a powerhouse in China's new energy and intelligent connected vehicle (NEV) businesses.
With the automobile industry transformed by internet, digital economy, 5G and new energy, auto makers all over the globe are seeking to upgrade and shifting their focus to NEVs and ICVs.
VOYAH – the premium electric vehicle brand of Dongfeng Motor – was established in WEDZ in May last year, while VOYAH FREE – its first production model – registered handsome sales. VOYAH Dreamer is its second production model, and officially entered the market on May 7. VOYAH intends to launch at least one new production model every year, with its third model expected to be announced at the end of this year.
WEDZ now boasts many NEV production models and types, such as plug-in hybrids, pure electric vehicles, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Since April last year, the zone has brought in four major NEV projects, each exceeding 5 billion yuan ($744 million yuan) in investment. This year, WEDZ will strive to achieve a total NEV output of 140,000.
