In the end of 2012, the working and management committees of the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (Hannan) founded an advanced manufacturing industrial zone to further implement "Industries Double Plan" and promote a "City-industry Integration and Urban-rural Integration" strategy.
The Advanced Manufacturing Industrial Zone is one of the four functional areas of Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone.
It is a primary gathering venue for manufacturers, according to WEDZ officials.
Its output value and tax account for more than 95 percent of the development zone's total.
The 2020 provincial government work report stated that in 2020 Hubei province will focus on promoting the high-quality development of its manufacturing industry and promoting the deep integration of its advanced manufacturing and modern service industries.
The Advanced Manufacturing Industrial Zone covers an area of 60.62 square kilometers and consists of Dunkou Old Industrial Park (48.26 square kilometers), Phoenix Industrial Park (8.37 square kilometers), Huangjinkou Industrial Park (2.98 square kilometers) and Dongfeng Honda II (1.01 square kilometers).
There are over 1,300 enterprises at the zone, including 1,115 industrial companies, among which 281 are above a designated size and 870 are below a designated size.
All finished vehicle enterprises and the majority of auto spare parts manufacturers in WEDZ are based at the industrial park, which also boasts three finished vehicle enterprises – Dongfeng Honda, Shenlong Auto and Dongfeng Passenger Vehicle.
In 2019, the zone registered 264.04 billion yuan ($41.19 billion) in industrial output for enterprises above designated size, accounting for 86.98 percent of WEDZ's total. Meanwhile, fixed asset investment during that year was 12.97 billion yuan, and a total of 28.53 billion yuan of investment was introduced to the zone, with cooperation agreements worth 51.64 billion yuan signed.
