Construction work began on Wuhan ISA International School in Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ), Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, on Dec 5, according to local media reports.

The school project, with an investment of 1.06 billion yuan ($162 million yuan), will cover an area of 170 mu (11.33 hectares).

It will be built in accordance with international standards, so as to attract high-end international education-related enterprises, enhance the region's attractiveness to international elites, and form an international educational ecosystem covering international education, sport, and art.

The ISA International School's Wuhan campus will boast two schools, with one specifically targeting international students.

It will provide a full international education, from kindergarten and elementary school through to middle school and high school, for students aged 2-18.

The school plans to start enrollment in September 2022, and will enroll more than 2,000 students from Central China.

According to statistics, there are about 20,000 foreigners living permanently in Hubei province, and 81 percent of them are in Wuhan.

As a national development zone, WHDZ is the area with the largest number of foreigners and the highest degree of internationalization in Wuhan.

As early as 15 years ago, the development zone established the city's first international community - Golden Harbor International Community.

In recent years, in order to attract high-end international talents, WHDZ has continuously improved its level of internationalization and created a good living environment for international expats. A number of high-quality international education and medical resources are rapidly gathering in the zone.

At present, the zone boasts a number of international schools such as Wuhan Yangtze International School, Wuhan Foreign Languages School, and Wuhan San New School.
