The passenger throughput of Wuhan Tianhe International Airport in Wuhan -- capital city of Central China’s Hubei province -- reached 50,300 on July 29, comprising 23,600 inbound passengers and 26,700 outbound passengers, according to local media reports.
Airport officials said this was the first time, since the resumption of commercial flights on April 8, that the daily passenger throughput had exceeded 50,000.
In order to meet the increasing travel needs of passengers after the novel coronavirus epidemic, the airport actively liaised with domestic airlines to increase their capacity and speed up the resumption of flights.
At present, the airport has more than 400 flights daily and the number of flights has recovered to more than 75 percent of the level before the epidemic outbreak.
In August, with the gradual recovery in the trans-provincial tourism market and college students set to return to school, passenger and student volumes should hit a peak, officials said.
They said that in the current month airlines plan to resume flights to destinations including Boao, Baotou and Linfen.
