A total of 16 middle schools in Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) -- located in Wuhan city, Central China’s Hubei province -- resumed classes for their ninth-grade students on May 20, according to the official WeChat account of the WHDZ.
The return to class involved some 3,353 students, officials reported.
The schools have adopted strict epidemic prevention and control measures during the novel coronavirus epidemic period -- including health data collection, body temperature measurements and restricting classes to small numbers.
In order to prepare for the resumption of classes, the WHDZ’s epidemic prevention and control headquarters has established a school work group.
The zone’s education bureau has set up six special training sessions for education and teaching, epidemic prevention and control, safety and stability. The bureau is tasked with organizing, coordinating and guiding the epidemic prevention and control of the education system and with wider preparations for the start of school.
At present, nucleic acid tests for teaching staff and junior high school students in the zone have been completed.
Each junior high school has reserved basic anti-epidemic materials which can be used for 14 days. These included 247 hand-held thermometers, 1,050 kilograms of ethyl alcohol, 4,620 kilograms of disinfectant, 1,122 bottles of hand sanitizer and 96,230 masks.
Faucets are added in in key places on each campus to meet the needs of teachers and students to wash their hands.
Also, infrared thermometers have been set up at the school entrances and in the dormitories to constantly monitor the physical condition of teachers and students.
